Can you break an apartment lease

A landlord can’t force you to move out before the lease ends, unless you fail to pay the rent or violate another significant term, such as repeatedly throwing large and noisy parties. In these cases, landlords in Oregon must follow specific procedures to end the tenancy.

How do I get out of my lease early?

  1. terminate the lease under a break clause;
  2. negotiate termination with the landlord;
  3. assign the lease – ie sell it to a new tenant;
  4. sublet the premises, or part of the premises.

How long after signing a lease can you back out?

There is no “cooling off” period for residential releases. In some states, a cooling off period is required for certain contracts, which give signers a window of time, typically one to three days, during which they can void the contract if they change their mind.

Is it bad to cancel an apartment lease?
