This is Moby's and the spelling is correct, it says so in at least two places in the book (page 75 only).
By the way, this is a sea animal, maybe a shark or a whale. Is this the old way of spelling modern words? Is it a special kind of whale or shark? Is it a general term like fish? That is any kind of whale or shark.

I searched 8 online dictionaries and my dictionary was not successful.
